LSU women’s basketball head coach Kim Mulkey is known for being a wild card on the court. She expresses that mentality in every facet of her coach style. From her play calling, to her demeanor, even down to her courtside attire.
Over the years, Mulkey has graced us with dozens of incredible outfits dating back to her time as head coach for Baylor. So, whether it be all gold, littered with flowers, or just incredibly fashionable, Mulkey always makes a case for the most uniquely dressed person, not just in college basketball, but in all of sports.
During Sunday’s game against the Auburn Tigers though, Mulkey may have taken her attire to a whole new level.
Let this be a notice to anyone who wasn’t sure before, but Mulkey really likes basketball. She probably likes basketball more than any fan of any sport. Because let’s face it, there are people out there who really love baseball, but we’ve never seen anyone dress up like home plate, have we?
Here’s everything to know about the new standard for coach wear moving forward.
Kim Mulkey’s new outfit
Fans were left more or less speechless by Mulkey’s choice of attire, and many a basketball joke was made.
However, it seems Mulkey didn’t think too much of the outfit. During a post-game press conference, Mulkey said that the outfit arrived on Friday and she “wasn’t even there.”
Was there a special occasion?
Sunday was LSU’s “Dress like Kim Mulkey” game. During halftime, several fans came down to the court sporting extravagant outfits, blonde wigs, and tons of glitter. Many of them were scary accurate in their representation of Mulkey’s likeness.
But it’s hard to steal the show when the person you are trying to imitate sets a new standard in fashion. The “hoop skirt” immediately stole everyone’s hearts on social media, and it’ll likely be a very long time before it’s topped again.
