Lyle Menendez paints mural for California prison beautification program he launched with his brother

Date:

Lyle Menendez and his brother Erik have launched a beautification initiative in the prison where they are serving life sentences for the 1989 killings of their parents. Their project is modeled on a program in Norway, where authorities try to help rehabilitate prisoners so they can be reintegrated in society. The brothers have been painting a massive mural that depicts San Diego landmarks and they say their aim is to transform the prison yard “from an oppressive concrete and gravel slab into a normalized park-like campus setting surrounded by a majestic landscape mural.”
