HENDERSON — Dennis Lambert, Daniel Faulkner, David Kirby and Tyler Beauchamp of M.R. Williams, Inc. claimed first place in the Vance County Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament at Henderson Country Club on Tuesday afternoon.
Henderson-Vance Chamber of Commerce Board Chair Margier White welcomed the crowd of golfers numbering the greater part of 100 before they set off in a shotgun start.
And what a perfect day it was for golf — the sky was bare, the sun had no contest and basked folks with its warm golden rays as a chilly breeze periodically swept through western Henderson’s hilly golf course.
Of the 24 teams, M.R. Williams’, comprised of Dennis Lambert, Daniel Faulkner, David Kirby and Tyler Beauchamp, took the first place prize of a sizable trophy, each receiving 12 golf balls and $25 gift cards to Ribeye’s of Henderson.
The Pegram Agency, Kenny Abbott, Joey Thompson, Tommy Overcash and Michael Reese took second place, winning three golf balls and $25 gift cards to Pino’s Italian Restaurant each.
Private Wealth Management of NC, Toney Faulkner, Dave Carver, Rusty Crocker and Kirk Meadows took home the bronze, a paperweight and $25 gift cards to Jersey Mike’s.
The Most Honest Team in the Tournament, or the team with the highest score, was recognized with a gift — Cross Creek Outdoor Supply. Each member won a free round of golf at the country club.
Scott Vaughan earned bragging rights for the closest drive to the pin on the 146-yard uphill par 3 9th hole. Vaughan put his ball two feet from the hole.
Kirt Meadows scored the closest ball on the 194-yard 16th hole.
White is coming up on the end of her tenure as Board Chair. Reflecting, she said she’s glad that events like the Chamber Challenge help show the better side of Henderson — news outlets often tend to focus on the negative.
The Presenting Sponsor was State Farm Insurance, Gold Sponsor was Kerr-Vance Academy and Silver Sponsors were Cypress Creek Renewables, H.G. Reynolds, Oxford Preparatory School and The Pegram Agency.
“We had people come out that have never played here before,” said Chamber President Sandra Wilkerson. “That made me really happy.”
“It’s about having a fun day and getting out of the office, but also networking and meeting people. It puts a lot of people shaking hands in the room together,” she said. “That’s what it’s all about.”
The Chamber will be holding a membership campaign for new members starting Oct. 15.
