FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A man is dead after speeding through a stop sign in Fresno County Sunday afternoon, the California Highway Patrol announced.
CHP says around 2 p.m. a Volkswagon ID4 was traveling westbound on Holland Avenue at a high rate of speed when the driver ignored the posted stop sign at Wishon Avenue.
Due to a dip in the roadway, investigators say the driver lost control of the car and collided the front of the vehicle with a tree. This caused the car to spin out of control until the back end collided with the back gate of a nearby home.
The man, believed to be in his mid-40s, succumbed to the injuries he sustained from the crash, CHP reports. He was the only occupant of the vehicle and was not wearing a seatbelt.
Investigators are actively working to determine if drugs or alcohol are a factor and report no other injuries.
