LAWRENCE TOWNSHIP — An Illinois man is dead after a motorcycle accident in Washington County Wednesday afternoon.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a one-vehicle fatal crash involving a 2008 KTM LC8 motorcycle around 1:39 p.m. Wednesday near milepost 9 on Ohio 26 in Lawrence Township, according to an OSHP media release.

Stephen L. Fisher, 63, of Wheaton, Illinois, was traveling north on Ohio 26, negotiating a left turn, when his motorcycle overtuned, veered off the right side of the road and struck a guardrail, the release said.

Fisher was riding with another person, who was in front of him and did not see how the accident happened, according to Patrol Sgt. Dustin Payne

“The two were friends,” he said. “They hadn’t seen each other and decided to go for a ride.”

Fisher suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the release.

Alcohol and drugs are not suspected to be a factor in the crash and Fisher was wearing a helmet, the release said.

“We’re still looking into it,” Payne said about the cause of the crash.

The patrol, its Crash Reconstruction Unit, Reno Volunteer Fire Department and EMS, the Ohio Department of Transportation and Gary’s Towing responded to the scene, according to the release.
