Manchester City target £100 million attack and midfield double raid in blockbuster January transfer plan

Officials at Manchester City are aiming for a blockbuster transfer raid that could exceed a £100 million spend this month as they look to get their season back on track.

Pep Guardiola and his players widely believe that their chances of a historic fifth consecutive Premier League title are already over, having recorded just two wins in their last 14 matches across competitions.

Last time out it was just a second away win in the space of 70 days as Manchester City recorded a 0-2 win away to Leicester City courtesy of goals from Savinho and Erling Haaland either side of the half-time interval.

With a mixture of injury and fitness problems, as well as an overall ageing squad, there is a common belief within and around the club that City require a major overhaul of their first-team roster heading into the final two years of Pep Guardiola’s current contract.

And that overhaul and revamp is likely to start in the ongoing January transfer window, with a new report pointing towards a potentially blockbuster pairing of signings across both midfield and the forward roles.

That is according to the information of The Sun’s Martin Blackburn, who reveals that Manchester City are now eyeing a double raid for Eintracht Frankfurt forward, Omar Marmoush, as well as the highly-rated and in-demand Atalanta midfielder, Ederson.

The report highlights that Premier League rivals Nottingham Forest had two bids worth up to £28 million rejected for Marmoush last summer, and the Egyptian star is now valued within the £50 million bracket.

As for Atalanta and Ederson, it is pointed out that the Serie A club would want a similar fee for the Brazil international, whom Pep Guardiola is said to feel would add ‘much-needed midfield steel’ to his squad.

This is a developing story. More to follow.
