Manchester City to block offers for first-team star during January transfer window despite other reports

Officials at Manchester City will not listen to offers for back-up goalkeeper Stefan Ortega Moreno during the upcoming January market, according to reports.

Recent claims from Germany suggested that the 31-year-old would push for a move away from the Etihad Stadium if he does not end up as the club’s number one goalkeeper, amid the sense that he now has ‘a great chance’ in the Germany national team.

It was further claimed that Ortega wants to receive a clear signal from the Premier League champions in the coming months that he will be number one next season, and if not, he wants to move.

That claim comes despite Pep Guardiola being hugely positive about Ortega’s abilities in goal, and fresh off the back of a start in UEFA Champions League action for Manchester City against Slovan Bratislava last month.

Guardiola has recently admitted the belief that Ortega is “one of the best players I’ve ever seen one-against-one, these kind of actions”, before explaining that Ederson could grasp such abilities by working alongside the German.

Despite earlier claims from German media, a new report has put any concerns over a possible imminent departure from the club to bed, insisting that no decisions will be made on the player until at least the next summer market.

According to the information of ManchesterWorld’s Michael Plant, Manchester City will not listen to offers for back-up choice goalkeeper, Stefan Ortega Moreno during the upcoming January transfer window.

The report explains that a move next summer seems a more likely solution if Ortega is considering his future, whilst Manchester City would not stand in his way if a suitable offer is received.

There does remain a possibility that Ederson could depart at the end of the 2024/25 season, with the Brazilian open to the prospect last summer, and Pep Guardiola recently explaining that the outcome of the goalkeeper remaining at the club was due to a lack of suitable offers.

Quizzed after Manchester City’s 3-2 win over Fulham in the Premier League on the nature of conversations between Ederson and Pep Guardiola over the summer, the Catalan coach said, “No, he knew from day one that I didn’t want it, we didn’t want it.

“But the truth, I’m going to tell you; the truth is that the offer didn’t come. The real offer. Because they made an offer but to be, for the keeper, for the team who won four Premier Leagues in a row, has a value, a price.

“Otherwise he cannot leave! But if the offer can be gone, maybe he should not be here. This is the truth.”

Conversation surrounding Ederson was largely sparked by a hugely impressive performance from the goalkeeper in the win over Marco Silva’s side, having denied Fulham on multiple clear opportunities at goal, several of which fell to Adama Traore on the counter-attack.
