Manchester City will face Tottenham tonight in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup. The match will take place at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. For the world champions the Carabao Cup may not be high on their list of priorities for this season. But as with any match, the champions will be playing to win against Ange Postecoglou’s side. It promises to be an entertaining affair between two teams who play attractive football tonight.
Latest Manchester City team news
Pep Guardiola’s side will head into today’s match likely without six players. Rodri and Oscar Bobb are both out with long-term injuries. Kyle Walker, Jeremy Doku, Jack Grealish and Kevin De Bruyne are also likely out due to injury. In the case of Kevin De Bruyne Pep Guardiola told the media yesterday that he is unsure when the Manchester City legend will return. De Bruyne is training but isn’t in a condition to return to the pitch.
Tonight may also see Pep Guardiola rest a host of key players. With three tough away games to follow tonight’s match for City tonight’s game could see players such as Erling Haaland, Bernardo Silva and Josko Gvardiol not feature at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. That will be known when the starting lineups are announced before kickoff.
Predicted Manchester City starting lineup
Stefan Ortega- Tonight should see Ortega start at the scene of his last season heroics from last season.
Rico Lewis- Lewis has been in good form of late and that should see him start at right-back.
John Stones- The England international is looking to be back to his best form and another start tonight could lie in wait for Stones.
Nathan Ake- Ake is another player who needs minutes to return to full fitness. I think he’ll partner Stones in the centre of City’s defence.
Kaden Braithwaite- Braithwaite impressed during City’s win over Watford in the third round of the competition. I’m hoping he gets another opportunity to impress tonight.
Mateo Kovacic- Kovacic is one of my picks to start in midfield tonight. I doubt he’ll play the full 90 minutes if that’s the case but I expect him to start.
Nico O’Reilly- Tonight’s match should be another chance for Nico O’Reilly to impress.
Ilkay Gundogan- If O’Reilly starts I expect Gundogan to join him in midfield. Gundogan could have a key role to play tonight.
James McAtee- McAtee deserves the chance to start tonight. He has impressed every time he has gotten on the pitch this season, and tonight’s match is the ideal opportunity for McAtee to start.
Savinho- With no Doku or Grealish I expect Savinho to start. The Brazilian international has impressed all season and could do so again tonight.
Phil Foden- I don’t expect Haaland to start up front or feature at all tonight. If that proves to be the case I expect Foden to start in a false 9 role.
