While it remains uncertain whether or not Real Madrid will sign new players in the upcoming January transfer window, the club appear quite serious about reinforcing their ranks in defence next summer.
Trent Alexander-Arnold and Alphonso Davies, in particular, have emerged as two top defensive targets, as the club look to sign both on free transfers.
There has been some form of advancement as far as the Davies pursuit is concerned, with recent reports suggesting that the Bayern Munich defender has reached an agreement with Los Blancos.
Manchester United join race to sign Davies
However, Real Madrid could face fresh competition in their bid to sign Davies, as there has been a new entrant in the race.
According to Florian Plettenberg, Manchester United, too, have identified Davies as one of their top defensive targets in the summer of 2025.
The Red Devils have gathered information about the possibility of Davies’ potential switch to Old Trafford at the end of the season.
Davies is currently enjoying an excellent run of form under new manager Vincent Kompany, but it remains unlikely he will continue at Bayern.
No new talks over his contract have been held so far and everything suggests he will leave the club on a free transfer.
Bayern, however, are open to returning to the negotiation table and extending the contract of the Canadian international.
As things stand, though, Real Madrid remain the firm favourites to acquire the services of the star left-back next summer.
Although Manchester United are likely to make an effort, the English giants are not entirely sure about their chances of signing the Bayern Munich superstar, simply knowing Real Madrid are also competing in the chase.
