Before his season ever really began, it is now over. Valentín Carboni (19) joined Olympique de Marseille on a season-long loan from Inter Milan in the summer. However, whilst on international duty with Argentina, he suffered an ACL injury, which will require surgery, and by extension, rule him out of the entirety of the campaign, as OM have confirmed.
Carboní struggled in pre-season with a muscular injury, which saw him miss the start of the season. In his absence, Amine Harit impressed. Limited to just one start, against SCO Angers in Marseille’s last match before the international break, he then joined up with the Argentina squad, where he suffered the season-ending injury.
His loan to Les Phocéens included an option to make the deal permanent for a fee of around €40m. However, in the wake of the injury, Inter Milan and Marseille are now in talks regarding a loan termination, according to Gazzetta dello Sport. Carboni could therefore return to the Serie A side this winter in order to continue his recovery.
