Jim Furyk, captain of the United States team at the 2024 Presidents Cup in Canada at Royal Montreal Golf Club, has plenty of experience among his captain’s assistants. The U.S. Team has good variety in its assistants from players who currently play on the PGA Tour to past Presidents Cup players and a pair of newcomers.
The biennial competition is Sept. 26-29 and pits a 12-man International squad (minus the European nations) against a 12-man U.S. team. The Americans lead the all-time series 12-1-1 and have never lost on home soil. The lone International win came in 1998 at Royal Melbourne.
Here’s a look at the four U.S. Team assistant captains:
Stewart Cink
Cink has appeared in four Presidents Cups (2000, 2005, 2007, 2009), compiling a 9-7-2 record in four U.S. Team victories, including a 4-0-0 performance in his debut in 2000. The only time Cink and Furyk were paired together in Presidents Cup competition was in 2007 at Royal Montreal, where they notched a 2-up victory over Angel Cabrera and K.J. Choi during Saturday’s fourball matches. The 51-year-old will be making his first appearance as a captain’s assistant in 2024.
Kevin Kisner
Kisner will also be making his debut as a captain’s assistant in 2024 after competing for the U.S. Team in 2017 and 2022. The four-time PGA Tour winner, who owns a 2-2-3 career record in Presidents Cup competition, built a reputation as a tenacious match play competitor, winning the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play in 2019 and finishing runner-up in 2018 and 2022.
Justin Leonard
Leonard, 51, has competed in the Presidents Cup five times (1996, 1998, 2003, 2005, 2009), compiling an 8-11-4 all-time record. The 12-time PGA Tour winner, who currently plays on PGA Tour Champions, was paired with Furyk four times between the 2003 and 2009 Presidents Cups, where the pair combined for a 2-1-1 record.
Brandt Snedeker
Snedeker, 43, represented the U.S. Team in the 2013 Presidents Cup at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio, compiling a 2-3-0 record. The Tennessee native also played for the United States in the 2012 and 2016 Ryder Cups, where he amassed a 4-2-0 record. Snedeker, who will be a first-time captain’s assistant in the Presidents Cup, was named one Bradley’s vice captains for the 2025 Ryder Cup.
Captain Jim Furyk
Furyk, who will make his debut as captain of the U.S. Team, has appeared in seven Presidents Cups (1998, 2000, 2003, 2005, 2007, 2009, 2011) and holds a 20-10-3 all-time record. He competed in the event’s only previous visit to Royal Montreal in 2007, posting a 3-2 record with two of his wins coming with Tiger Woods as his partner. In his final start as a playing participant in 2011 at The Royal Melbourne Golf Club, he delivered a 5-0-0 record – the fourth player in Presidents Cup history at the time to do so – that led to a 19-15 win over the International Team. Furyk qualified for the 2015 Presidents Cup in South Korea but was unable to compete due to a wrist injury.
