Memphis basketball vs Arkansas State score today: Live updates, highlights from FedExForum

Date:

Penny Hardaway wants Memphis basketball − one of the top 3-point shooting teams in the country − to shoot more 3-pointers.

The 15th-ranked Tigers (7-1) will get their chance to do that Sunday (3 p.m., ESPNU) against Arkansas State (6-3). Hardaway’s team is currently averaging just more than 18 attempts beyond the arc per game, but the coach would like to see that number closer to 30.

If Memphis increases its volume of outside shots, Colby Rogers (45% from three this season) would be delighted.

“I’m not gonna say no to shooting more threes,” he said earlier this week.

But Rogers also sees the value in finding some sort of middle ground.

“I just think we have two dynamic guards (PJ Haggerty and Tyrese Hunter), who like to get downhill,” he said. “Then, we’ve got Dain (Dainja) in the post. But, I mean, I think for us it’s just depending on the game. If our guards think they can get downhill, they’re going to do that. I think it’s just situational.”
