Men’s Basketball Alumnus James Brown ’73 Inducted into Washington Metropolitan Basketball Hall of Fame – Harvard University

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Harvard University Men’s Basketball alumnus James Brown ’73 – a three-time All-Ivy selection during his time with the Crimson and an award-winning broadcaster – has earned induction into the Washington Metropolitan Basketball Hall of Fame on Sunday.
 
A native of Washington, D.C., Brown attended DeMatha Catholic High School, earning All-Metropolitan Boys’ Basketball honors in 1967 and 1968 prior to joining the Crimson. At Harvard, Brown earned All-Ivy and NABC All-District honors in each of his final three seasons. During his time with the Crimson, Brown scored 1,242 career points and grabbed 747 career rebounds. Brown still holds the Harvard record for field goals made in a single game (18) and stands second in career rebounds per game (9.7). Brown earned induction into the Harvard Varsity Club Hall of Fame in 1997.
 
Brown is the current host of “The NFL Today” on CBS and “Inside The NFL” on Showtime.  A three-time Emmy Award-winning network broadcaster, Brown, who was elected into the Sports Broadcasting Hall of Fame in August 2020, has hosted the Super Bowl a record setting 10 times including Super Bowl 55 on CBS. In 2010, SI.com named Brown the Best Studio Host of the Decade. Brown is a Special Correspondent for CBS News and contributes to programs such as “60 Minutes”, “CBS This Morning”, “CBS Evening News” and “48 Hours”. He is also a founding partner of Major League Baseball’s 2019 World Series Champion Washington Nationals.
 
Brown’s previous broadcasting roles include host of “Thursday Night Football” on CBS and The NFL Network, co-host of “Fox NFL Sunday,” correspondent for “Real Sports” with Bryant Gumbel on HBO, and host of a nationally syndicated radio show on Sporting News Radio.  In 2009, Brown’s first co-authored book entitled, Role of a Lifetime: Reflections on Faith, Family and Significant Living, was released.
 
The Washington Metropolitan Basketball Hall of Fame gives recognition to worthy coaches, players, referees, executives and special contributors. Established in 1981, the Washington Metropolitan Basketball Hall of Fame is administered by a Board of Directors comprised of civic leaders, school officials, media representatives, coaches and basketball-minded men and women from the Metropolitan area. The local Hall of Fame is associated with the Naismith Memorial National Basketball Hall of Fame located in Springfield, Massachusetts.
 
The Washington Metropolitan Basketball Hall of Fame includes an impressive list of inductees including the likes of Elgin Baylor, Len Elmore, Grant Hill, Wes Unseld, and Tommy Amaker, The Thomas G. Stemberg ’71 Family Endowed Coach for Harvard Men’s Basketball.
