HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Noah Amenhauser scored a career-high 15 points and grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds, but the Chants fell at Alabama A&M 77-70 Saturday evening in the second game at the Bulldog Bash.
The Bulldogs trailed by 10 at halftime but came out in the second half and chipped away at the Chants lead until a Darius Ford free throw gave A&M a 44-43 lead with 14 minutes left in the game and never trailed again.
Denzel Hines scored 13 points and Rasheed Jones added 11. Nine of the 10 Chanticleers that played in the game scored as CCU finished the game shooting 40.4 percent from the field and 39.1 percent on their three-point attempts. CCU hit 19 of their 29 free throws for 65.5 percent.
The Chants (2-4) had 12 assists with Jordan Battle finishing with four and CCU also out rebounded the home team 43-35.
Ford finished with a game-high 17 points for A&M as AC Bryant scored 15, Chad Moodie finished with 14 and Lorenzo Downey scored 12.
AAMU (4-3) shot 42.9 percent from the field, but shot 53.8 percent (14-26) in the second half. AAMU hit 21 of their 31 free throws including seven of their last eight over the final 48 seconds to pull out the win.
On the strength of a 17-0 run late in the opening half, CCU turned a 16-13 deficit into a 30-16 and led 34-24 at halftime. Amenhauser led CCU with seven first-half points with Hines and Jones adding six each while shooting 43.5 percent from the field and 41.7 percent on their three-point attempts.
CCU also held a 22-18 edge in rebounds with Amenhauser grabbing five to lead the way.
AAMU was led by Moodie with six points as the Chants’ defense held AAMU ton 33.3 percent shooting from the field and only 25.0 percent on their three-point attempts.
The Chants will be back home to host USC Upstate on Saturday, Nov. 30 at 2 p.m. ET.
