Men’s Basketball Posts Largest Victory in School History – University of Missouri Athletics

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Led by a balanced scoring attack, University of Missouri men’s basketball team cruised to a record-tying 72-point win in a 111-39 effort Thursday night. With the win, the Tigers improve to 3-1 on the season and 3-0 in Mizzou Arena.

The 72-point victory matches the largest in school history, tying the mark first set in 1976 versus MacMurray (106-34) and also accomplished against Chicago State in 1995 (117-45).

MIZZOU LEADERS

Seven Tigers scored in double figures to lead Mizzou to victory. Graduate senior Marques Warrick led the team with 16 points, including four 3-pointers, while Tamar Bates and Caleb Grill chipped in 15. Junior Mark Mitchell added 13 points and a team-leading five steals, which is also a career-high. 

Graduate Jacob Crews finished in double figures for the first time as a Tiger, while freshmen Annor Boateng and Marcus Allen also scored in double figures for the first time in their careers, each scoring 10 points.

GAME RECAP

Mizzou used a 14-0 run to build an early lead, led by three pointers from Bates and Warrick. Mizzou added to its lead by staying hot from beyond the arc, as they hit nine of its first 17 from beyond the arc, with Warrick, Crews and Bates combining for eight of them. 

Warrick led the team with 11 points and three triples in the opening 20 minutes of action, giving MU a 51-19 advantage heading into the locker room. 

Mizzou came out of the locker room strong, scoring the first 15 points of the second half, highlighted by A Mark Mitchell fastbreak dunk. The Tigers cruised from there to tie the program record for margin of victory.

TEAM STATS

Mizzou shot 56.9 percent in the winning effort with a 15-of-31 clip (48.4%) from 3-point range. Mizzou got 66 of its 111 points from the bench. The Tigers also held the Delta Devils to 27.1 percent from the field with a 1-of-10 mark from 3-point range. 

UP NEXT

The Tigers look to extend their winning streak to four, hosting Pacific next Friday night. Tipoff at Mizzou arena is set for 6:30 p.m. on SEC Network+.
