Mesilla marshals arrest woman, allege she is ‘serial fraudster’

Date:

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The Mesilla, New Mexico, Marshals Office has arrested a woman whom they are calling a “serial fraudster,” they said Sunday morning, Oct 20.

The Mesilla Marshals Office identified the woman as Michelle Renee Casas. They said she was arrested after a lengthy investigation and they will be detailing charges and the impact on victims during a news conference at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 21 at Mesilla Town Hall, 2231 Avenida de Mesilla.

The Mesilla Marshals Office said that Casas was arrested Friday night, Oct. 18 in front of the Walmart on Valley Drive about two hours after she had been released from jail. She had been previously arrested on a warrant dating from Sept. 15 on charges of fraud (counterfeit currency), forgery and identity theft, the Marshals Office said.

She was arrested after Mesilla marshals convinced her that they were going to give her a ride to pick up her vehicle. Instead, she was taken to Dona Ana County Detention Center, they said.

Her new arrest will feature a “slew” of new criminal charges on a new arrest warrant, the Marshals Office said.

They will be going into detail about the victims and charges during Monday’s news conference.
