The Giants are in the market for a quarterback and luckily for the organization, they’ll have a high pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. So it makes sense that Giants brass will be scouting potential QBs, and Miami University signal-caller Cam Ward was the first.
GM Joe Schoen and director of player personnel Tim McDonnell were on the sidelines at the Pop-Tarts Bowl between Miami and Iowa State on Saturday night.
Ward and Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders are the top two QB prospects in the upcoming draft but the former really showed why he should be potentially the No. 1 overall pick come April.
The Texas native threw for 190 yards on 12 of 19 passing to go along with three touchdowns. Those numbers came in just one half of play as Ward was left off the field to preserve the fifth-year senior’s stock.
Ward has had an incredible 2024 season with Miami. He’s passed for 4,123 yards and 36 touchdowns to just seven interceptions. He also completed passes at a 67.4 percent clip.
The Heisman finalist is well aware of the teams who are vying for a quarterback in the draft including the Giants. Ward gave his pitch to the Giants when he was in New York for the Heisman presentation earlier this month.
“I just know if they get a chance to get me, they’re going to get everything I have,” Ward told reporters. “They’d be getting that dude. They’d be getting somebody who’s someone who doesn’t care about anything — just how he moves, how he operates on and off the field, is confident, somebody who’s going to challenge himself more than he challenges the team. At the end of the day, wins mean everything. You’re getting a winner.”
Currently, the Giants (2-13) have the worst record in the NFL with two games remaining. They face the Colts (7-8) in Week 17 and close the season against their division rival, the Philadelphia Eagles (12-3).
