Tom Izzo for president?

Nah, he wouldn’t fit in Washington. But he sure is working the D.C. area like a skilled politician these days.

Michigan State basketball picked up its second commitment for 2025 as four-star recruit Cam Ward announced his pledge Tuesday night.

The 6-foot-8, 205-pound Ward is rated the nation’s No. 50 overall player and No. 14 power forward, according to 247Sports.com’s composite rankings. The Largo High and Upper Marlboro, Maryland, product picked MSU over finalists Maryland, Virginia and Kansas State.

Ward joins four-star swingman Jordan Scott in Izzo’s next recruiting class. The 6-7, 185-pound Scott, the No. 91 player nationally and No. 20 small forward, is from South Lakes High in Reston, Virginia.

Ward was named Maryland’s Gatorade Player of the Year and a first-team All-Met selection by the Washington Post in 2023-24 after leading Largo to the state 2A boys title in March. He averaged 26.0 points, 11.5 rebounds, 2.7 steals, 2.4 assists and 2.1 blocks as the Lions finished with a 25-2 record while playing for his father, Rodney. Ward’s mother, Ayana Ball-Ward, is the school’s athletic director.

Ward averaged 27 points and shot 77.4% in four July games playing for Team Durant at the Peach Jam Invitational in Georgia. He also averaged 24.3 points with 6.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists in the spring Nike EYBL for Team Durant, making 62.7% of his shots.
