Serie B side Sassuolo will play Milan in the Coppa Italia round of 16 as a result of their 2-0 away victory at Lecce’s Stadio Via del Mare on Tuesday afternoon.
Sassuolo earn Milan tie in Coppa Italia
The Neroverdi stunned Luca Gotti’s side with one goal in each half, scored by Tarik Muharemovic and Luca D’Andrea respectively.
The defeat piled more misery on Lecce, who already came on the back of a bitter 2-2 home draw against Parma in Serie A last weekend, with the visitors scoring twice in injury time to earn a point.
Sassuolo, meanwhile, built on a decent start to the season that saw them pick up 11 points from their opening six Serie B games, as they currently sit third, three points behind leaders Pisa.
Sassuolo will now face Milan in San Siro in the Coppa Italia round of 16, scheduled for the first half of December. The fixture will spark plenty of nice memories for the Neroverdi, who won four times at the Rossoneri’s home throughout their 10-season stay in Serie A, including a memorable 5-2 in January 2023.
