Milan sack Paulo Fonseca after barely six months

Date:

Milan have sacked head coach Paulo Fonseca after less than six months.

Fonseca succeeded Stefano Pioli at the San Siro last summer but struggled to build on his predecessor’s solid work as the Serie A giants slipped to eighth in the table.

Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Roma proved to be the Portuguese’s last game in charge, with the Rossoneri confirming his departure barely 12 hours later.

“AC Milan announces that Paulo Fonseca has been relieved from his duties as head coach of the men’s First Team,” read a club statement.

“The club extends its gratitude to Paulo for his great professionalism and wishes him the very best in his future endeavours.”

Milan are reportedly lining up Fonseca’s compatriot Sérgio Conceição, who left Porto last summer, as his immediate replacement.
