MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Can Missouri basketball turn the page?

Mizzou faces Memphis on Monday on the road at FedEx Forum to open its 2024-25 slate, when it will get the chance to win a game for the first time this calendar year.

Missouri has retooled after losing 19 straight games — every game against SEC opposition — to close its last campaign.

Duke small forward Mark Mitchell and Iowa point guard Tony Perkins should plug into the lineup as instant starters, and UT Martin wing Jacob Crews, South Carolina center Josh Gray and Northern Kentucky guard Marques Warrick all shape up to be prominent players for Gates’ third roster in Columbia.

Memphis also looks a lot different from the team that beat MU 70-55 last season at Mizzou Arena, with just one returning starter on coach Penny Hardaway’s roster.

Missouri checked in as the No. 52-ranked team on the basketball advanced analytics site KenPom’s preseason rankings, while Memphis is No. 42.

Can Mizzou get it done on the road?

The Columbia Daily Tribune is live on site at FedEx Forum for the opening day of college basketball nationwide. You can follow along on this page for updates one very key play and major update live from the game:

Missouri at Memphis predictions

Two new-look rosters will face off Monday in Memphis, where Mizzou is looking for its first win this calendar year. We say Missouri gets the job done for a good-feel start to the 2024-25 season after a horrid last campaign.

Missouri injury and availability updates

Missouri transfer point guard Tony Perkins missed the team’s exhibition against Lincoln on Oct. 26, and although Gates said he’s been practicing, the coach was vague about whether Perkins would play against Memphis.

“Tony Perkins has been practicing, and I’m excited about what he’s been able to do,” Gates said. “So, for me, he’s had a great week of practice.”
