Mitchell girls tennis wins final dual of season against Watertown

Sep. 24—MITCHELL — In the final dual of the season, the Mitchell High School girls tennis team took home a dual victory over Watertown 5-4 on Tuesday at Hitchcock Park.

In singles play, the Kernels took home four of the six matches which ended up being the difference in the match. In Flight 1, Megan Mastel lost to Ellie Zink in three sets 0-6, 7-5 and 10-4. In Flight 2, Carsyn Weich took her match in two sets 7-5 and 6-4. Katie Morgan dropped her Flight 3 match 6-4 and 6-2.

Mitchell took the final three flights with Elly Clement winning Flight 4 6-0 and 6-3, Matteah Graves winning 6-1 and 6-2 in Flight 5 and Mia Larson taking Flight 6 6-4 and 6-0.

In doubles action, Clement and Graves were the lone Kernel victory in Flight 2 with both sets ending 6-4 in favor of Mitchell. Mastel and Weich dropped the Flight 1 match 6-3 and 6-4 while Morgan and Larson lost in Flight 3 7-5 in both sets.

Mitchell (16-2, 8-0 ESD) will be back in action at the two-day Eastern South Dakota meet in Watertown on Monday, Sept. 30. The event is set to begin at 2 p.m.
