Mitchell’s Cooper Star takes consolation title at tennis tournament in Minnesota

Oct. 28—EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. — Mitchell High School boys tennis player Cooper Star put together an impressive showing on the court over the weekend.

Star went 4-1 in singles competition and was the consolation champion in singles at the Eden Prairie LifeTime Boys Singles Showdown. Following an opening-round victory in the tournament, North Sioux City’s Peter Laurich bested him in the round of 16 (6-0, 6-1) en route to the event victory.

Having moved to the consolation bracket, Star ran the table to claim the consolation title, defeating Evan Chen 5-3, 4-2 in the quarterfinals. He took down Roger Yank 4-0, 5-3 in the semifinals and won the consolation final match against Jaden Wu by a final of 4-1, 5-4 (3).

Star, a freshman, went 15-11 last spring for Mitchell boys tennis at No. 4 singles.
