More Afghan players in IPL shows cricket is growing back home: Rashid

The Afghan leg-spinner also insisted that it is just the beginning for the players back in Afghanistan

Stocks continued to rise for Afghanistan in the Indian Premier League (IPL), with as many as six players in the league. Karim Janat and Allah Ghazanfar became the latest entrants to the club, with Mumbai Indians splurging INR 4.8 crore for the mystery spinner in the mega auction.

In the aftermath of a successful auction for the country, their ace leg-spinner Rashid Khan lauded the development, stating that it is ‘good’ to see that the players are making a name for themselves.

“It’s great news for Afghanistan cricket to have more players in the IPL,” Rashid said on the sidelines of the Abu Dhabi T10.

“It [IPL] is the biggest league in the world. It’s just the beginning for the players back home. It’s good to see how they are getting into that space and making a place for themselves. This shows that Afghanistan cricket is growing and I’m so happy and excited to see all of them play the tournament,” he said.

Rashid, who is part of the Bangla Tigers at the Abu Dhabi T10, also spoke about how tough it is for spinners to ace in the ten-over format.

“T10 certainly is a difficult format for the spinners. The batters are always looking to attack. Moreover, the ball is also new so, it becomes challenging to get the turn. But you have to put your best foot forward and bowl in the right areas.”

“You have a good boundary size and also the ground, and the wicket is a little bit supportive. If you have the skills, you can come and perform. It’s just the matter of one delivery and you can dismiss a batter,” he concluded.
