More troubles: Another Real Madrid star injured vs Girona; set to miss Atalanta clash

Real Madrid’s injury woes continue to mount as left-back Ferland Mendy added to the growing list of muscle issues within Carlo Ancelotti’s squad.

During Saturday’s match against Girona at Montilivi, Mendy was forced off the field with a quadriceps issue in his left leg just ten minutes before the final whistle.

The day began with Rodrygo being ruled out due to muscular discomfort in his left leg. This setback comes shortly after the Brazilian had recovered from a previous rupture in the same leg.

Unfortunately for Real Madrid, their injury troubles didn’t stop there. In the second half of the match, Jude Bellingham also experienced physical discomfort, followed shortly by Mendy’s injury.

What happened to Mendy?

Mendy’s problem occurred during a defensive action in the 80th minute, causing him to collapse on the pitch inside his penalty area.

His teammates gathered around to offer support as the medical team attended to him. After assessing the situation, the doctors requested an immediate substitution, allowing Raul Asencio to come on as Mendy’s replacement.

The club is now awaiting the results of medical tests to confirm the extent of injuries to both Rodrygo and Mendy. Both players are doubtful for Tuesday’s crucial UEFA Champions League clash against Atalanta in Italy.

This game is pivotal for Real Madrid, as they face a formidable Atalanta side that is on a hot streak with 12 wins and a draw in their last 13 matches.

There is a glimmer of hope for the Madridistas, as Vinicius Jr. is expected to return for the Atalanta match. However, as mentioned by Ancelotti himself, Mendy is set to miss the trip to Bergamo, dealing another blow to Ancelotti’s plans.

“Let’s evaluate what Mendy has, it looks like something muscular. He will not be in Bergamo,” he said after the match (h/t AS).

With less than 72 hours to recover and prepare, Real Madrid will have to find solutions to overcome their injury crisis as they fight to stay alive in the Champions League.
