Hart 44, Grant 32
The Pirates used a 13-0 run in the second quarter to create some separation and held off the Tigers in the second half for a non-conference win to start the season.
Hart senior Addi Hovey finished with 19 points, 15 rebounds, seven steals and two assists to pace the Pirates, while Rilynn Porter added 10 points and three assists, Reese Smith had six points, four steals and four assists and Kelsey Copenhaver had four points, seven rebounds, four steals and two assists.

Montague 61, Newaygo 49
The Wildcats used a 30-point second quarter to pull away from the Lions and secure a hard-fought win in their season opener.
Addison Pranger scored 19 points to lead Montague, while Braylyn Bultema added 16 points, and Addie Peterson and Amanda Cederqusit each had eight points.
“Overall, I am very happy with how the girls played tonight,” said Montague head coach Jess DeBruin. “Newaygo is a scrappy team and we adjusted well to their trap defenses. It was a great team win tonight.”
Ruby Hughes led Newaygo with 12 points and nine rebounds, while Naomi Schillman added nine points, Amaya Lathrop had eight points and four steals and Morgan Andres had seven points and five steals.
“Fouls killed us in the first half and throughout the game and we struggled with girls playing positions they weren’t used to, which really played into Montague’s press,” said Newaygo head coach Nate Thomasma.
“Give credit to Montague though. They made big shots and also consistently made their free throws. It was a rough opener for us but it was a good learning experience for our team. I loved the way we competed. There is no quit in this team, we just have to play smarter and we must take care of the ball better if we want to reach our goals this year.”

Ravenna 34, White Cloud 18
The Bulldogs used a 17-point second quarter to pull away from White Cloud to secure a non-conference win in their season opener.
Andi Vincent led White Cloud with nine points.
“We really struggled inside against their height,” said White Cloud head coach Caleb Wilk. “Of their 34 points, all but two came from the paint or the free-throw line. Our rebounding was not where it needed to be tonight and it is something we are going to work on all season. The good news is this team will continue to get better as the season goes on.”

Kaley Cousineau led Hesperia with five points, while Alyssa Wishman added four points and Olivia Gerard had three points.
