This week, L’Equipe reported that Liverpool was plotting a potential move for Paris Saint-Germain’s Kylian Mbappé in 2022. Moreover, there’s a reason why the Frenchman wanted out two seasons ago.
Liverpool’s offer was a substantial €200 million, plus a short-term contract that would have allowed Mbappé to join Real Madrid afterward. However, PSG’s then sporting director, Antero Henrique, categorically rejected the offer.
L’Equipe also reported that the forward wanted out of the French capital because of the lack of big-name arrivals. According to the outlet, Mbappé was indeed expecting several big names to join PSG, particularly Robert Lewandowski and Bernardo Silva.
Ultimately, neither of these stars signed with the club, which upset the French player and led to his departure from PSG this summer when he joined Real Madrid as a free agent.
The rumor that the 25-year-old is allegedly demanding players from Barcelona and Manchester City surprised RMC Sport pundit Christophe Dugarry, who noted he’s never seen a star player make such demands before.
“Mbappé, he almost signed for Liverpool because he didn’t have the players he wanted,” Dugarry said on Rothen s’enflamme (h/t Le10Sport). “He was promised Lewandowski and Silva, but since that didn’t happen, he was ready to leave for Liverpool.
“But what is that? But dude, are you a player, coach, sporting director, president? What are you? I’ve never seen that. I promise you, I’ve had the chance to play with great players, I’ve seen their behavior, I’ve never seen guys do that.”
