Publix, the beloved Florida-based grocer known for its subs, BOGO deals, and fresh bakery items, has announced plans for another Kentucky location.
The more than 55,000 square foot Publix Super Market will be supported by an adjacent 3,300 square foot Publix Liquors at the Northeast corner of Pear Orchard Road and Ring Road in Elizabethtown.
“We are excited to announce our continued growth across Kentucky with 12locations now announced in the state,” said media relations manager Jared Glover. “We look forward to delivering the Publix experience to our new customers in Elizabethtown soon.”
Previously, Hardin County officials told the Courier Journal its Elizabethtown metro was booming with growth, spurring new downtown developments, and restaurants, and had seen major grocery store interest as a result of the soon-to-come-online nearly $6 billion BlueOval SK Battery Park.
A Publix spokesperson shared with the Courier Journal the grocery chain has executed a lease for a new store location in Elizabethtown, just south of Louisville.
This Publix location will immediately benefit from a drastic population increase of an estimated more than 22,000 by 2030, with the majority of residents landing in Elizabethtown.
As Publix continues spreading across Kentucky, here’s a look at where shops are currently located:
Does Louisville have a Publix?
Yes.
The first Publix to open in Kentucky was in Louisville. The Publix at 2500 Terra Crossing Blvd. in far eastern Jefferson County opened in January and is unlike most of the supermarket’s stores across the southeast, as it offers all the traditional supermarket features — deli, bakery, pharmacy — plus additional offerings, the Courier Journal previously reported.
The Louisville store features expanded made-to-order food bars, including Tex-Mex, pizza and sushi stations, setting it apart from other locations.
With the addition of the Louisville Publix in January, Kentucky became the grocers’ eighth state of operation. The supermarket is open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
Are more Publix’s planned for Kentucky?
Yes.
In addition to the newly announced Elizabethtown location, the chain plans to open a location in Owensboro at the northwest corner of Pleasant Valley Road and Hayden Road.
Two other Publix locations are also planned for Louisville.
One supermarket is in the works at the northeast corner of Ballardsville Road and Brownsboro Road, 10005 Ballardsville Road. The second future store is located at the northwest corner of Flat Rock Road and Shelbyville Road (near the Shelby County line), at 100 Flat Rock Road.
Publix has confirmed locations for two Northern Kentucky store locations as well.
