It wasn’t enough for Nick Dunlap to become the first amateur to win on the PGA Tour in a generation.

He went on make more history.

Dunlap, who won The American Express in the third week of the season as a sophomore at Alabama, turned professional the following week and later in the year added his second victory at the Barracuda Championship.

That made the Huntsville, Ala., the first player in history to win as an amateur and a professional in the same season and he was rewarded on Thursday with the announcement that he was voted PGA Tour Rookie of the Year in a vote of the players.

Dunlap received 57 percent of the vote to beat out the other three nominees, Max Greyserman, Jake Knapp and Matthieu Pavon. The exact order of finish behind Dunlap wasn’t relvealed.

Dunlap finished the seasons 49th on the FedEx Cup points list, earning him a spot in the Tour’s Signature events for the 2025 season.

Prior to winning on the Tour, Dunlap was the world’s No. 1-ranked amateur and joined Tiger Woods as the only players to win the U.S. Junior Amateur and the U.S. Amateur. He was an AJGA Player of the Year in 2021 and played on the Walker Cup team.

Dunlap shot a 60 in the third round of the American Express and won by one shot. The last amateur to win on the PGA Tour was Phil Mickelson at the Northern Telecom Open in 1991. He left Alabama

At 20 years, 11 months and 12 days, he is the second-youngest Tour Rookie of the Year, following Jordan Spieth in 2013 (20 years, two months).
