Ninth potential Manchester City injury as defender spotted receiving full-time treatment at Tottenham

Manchester City may have to deal with a ninth injury lay-off this week after a further name was spotted receiving treatment after the full-time whistle against Tottenham.

Pep Guardiola and his players crashed out of the Carabao Cup at the fourth round stage this week with their first defeat of the new season ending their unbeaten run across all competitions up until this stage.

An early goal from Timo Werner was followed up by a Pape Sarr striker later in the first-half, before a goal from Matheus Nunes would spark a potential comeback from the Premier League champions which was ultimately not to be.

The second-half was more significantly marred by an apparent serious injury to Savinho, who left the field in tears and via the aid of a stretcher having sustained an ankle problem, following on from a muscular issue picked up by Manuel Akanji in the warm-up.

And after the full-time whistle at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Wednesday night, Manchester City’s ever-present left-back Josko Gvardiol was spotted receiving attention from club medical staff on the field.

Commenting on the issue after the game with reporters in north London, Pep Guardiola said, “I don’t know. I didn’t speak (with doctors or Gvardiol).”

He continued, “Everyone was on the table having a massage so it was too busy, too crowded. So I don’t know.”

Manchester City will now return to the City Football Academy in the early hours of Thursday morning, before taking on a short recovery session later in the day prior to a more complete session on Friday looking ahead to their Premier League schedule at the weekend.

City are due to travel to Bournemouth for an away trip against Andoni Iraola’s side on Saturday afternoon, with Pep Guardiola facing a heavily congested injury list within his first-team squad.

Injuries to Manuel Akanji and Savinho make it eight players currently sidelined following the conclusion of the Carabao Cup clash in North London, adding to a list already featuring Kyle Walker, Rodri, Kevin De Bruyne, Oscar Bobb, Jeremy Doku, and Jack Grealish.
