Purdue basketball coach Matt Painter on win over Northwestern
Hear what Matt Painter said after the Boilermakers defeated Northwestern on Sunday.
Purdue basketball seeks its fourth straight victory when it visits Rutgers in Big Ten action on Thursday, Jan. 9, 2025.
The No. 19 Boilermakers (11-4, 3-1) pounced on Northwestern from the jump and kept pouring it on Sunday in a blowout victory. During its three-game winning streak, Purdue opponents have shot 23.2% from 3-point range, and Braden Smith has averaged 25.3 points, 9.7 assists and 5.3 rebounds. The Boilers are first in conference play, hitting 50% of their shots, and are second in 3-point shooting (39.1%).
The Scarlet Knights (8-7, 1-3) have two freshmen expected to be picked early in the 2025 NBA Draft: Dylan Harper and Ace Bailey. Harper hasn’t been himself lately, missing two games with illness and then going scoreless in 15 minutes of a loss Monday to Wisconsin. Bailey fouled out and scored just 9 points against the Badgers, but memories of his 39-point performance against Indiana are fresh. In Big Ten play, Rutgers is 17th in assists (11.3) and turnover margin (-4.7), and last in steals (3.0).
