No, Mohammed Siraj isn’t the fastest bowler—Here’s the ultimate list of cricket’s speed kings!

Date:

A technical error showed Indian bowler Mohammed Siraj bowling an impossible 181.6 kph (112.8 mph) during the first day of the second Test match against Australia in Adelaide on Friday. The incident occurred in the 25th over of Australia’s innings. Siraj’s delivery was actually a back-of-a-length ball that Marnus Labuschagne hit for four runs. The speed displayed on the screen was immediately recognized as a mistake by viewers and sparked jokes online.

The current record for the fastest ball bowled is held by Shoaib Akhtar of Pakistan, who bowled a 161.3 kph (100.23 mph) delivery during the 2003 World Cup.

Several other bowlers have achieved speeds over 150 km/h, including Brett Lee and Shaun Tait, both of whom reached 161.1 km/h (100.1 mph). Lee achieved this speed against New Zealand in 2005, while Tait matched it against England in 2010.

Australian bowler Jeff Thomson’s 160.6 km/h (99.8 mph) delivery against the West Indies in 1975 places him among the fastest bowlers ever. Mitchell Starc, another Australian, reached 160.4 km/h (99.7 mph) against New Zealand in 2015.

Andy Roberts, from the West Indies, bowled 159.5 km/h (99.1 mph) against Australia in 1975. Other bowlers who have surpassed the 150 km/h mark include Fidel Edwards, Mitchell Johnson, Mohammad Sami, Shane Bond, Nantie Hayward, Jason Gillespie and Waqar Younis.
