Official | Dejan Lovren leaves Lyon to join PAOK

Date:

Dejan Lovren (35) has left Olympique Lyonnais, joining Greek club PAOK on a free transfer after reaching an agreement to terminate his contract with the Ligue 1 club one year early.

Lovren was deemed surplus to requirements at Lyon a long time ago, ever since Pierre Sage’s arrival as manager towards the end of 2023. He was placed in the ‘loft’ at Lyon at the start of the summer, along with a raft of other players, including veteran goalkeeper Anthony Lopes, as the club looked to raise funds. However, a move failed to take form. The transfer window in France opened and shut without any considerable interest being shown in the Croatian centre-back.

Before the closure of the Greek window, PAOK began to show interest too. Ultimately, the Croatian centre-back has completed the move to the club, despite the closure of the transfer window in Greece. Lyon and Lovren reached a mutual agreement for the termination of his contract, allowing him to join PAOK on a free transfer.
