Guillermo Maripán (30) has left AS Monaco, joining Serie A side Torino on a permanent transfer, as confirmed by the two clubs.
Maripán has spent five years at the Principality club and went on to make 150 appearances, scoring 13 goals in that time. However, over the summer, Monaco have recruited three centre-backs. Thilo Kehrer’s loan move from West Ham United was made permanent whilst Christian Mawissa arrived from Toulouse FC and Jordan Teze arrived from PSV Eindhoven.
With added competition to contend with Maripán didn’t get on the pitch in Les Monégasques’ first two games of the season. Against Olympique Lyonnais last weekend, he was not even included in the matchday squad. Whilst it was simply the manager’s choice to exclude the Chilean international, it hinted at a lack of a future for Maripán at Monaco.
He has now departed, completing a permanent move to Serie A side Torino for an undisclosed fee. He has signed a two-year deal, with the option for a further year.
