France international midfielder Manu Koné (23) has signed for AS Roma from Borussia Mönchengladbach, both clubs have announced. The 23-year-old silver medallist with France’s Olympic football team has put pen to paper with the Serie A side over a loan move with a reported €20m mandatory purchase option. Koné will wear the #17 jersey with Daniele De Rossi’s Giallorossi.
Koné joined the Bundesliga outfit in 2021 from Toulouse. AS Monaco and AC Milan were previously linked with a move for the midfielder, who has just received his first-ever senior France call-up. “Manu Koné has shown not only with us, but also recently at the Olympic Games what an outstanding player he is”, says Roland Virkus, Borussia Sporting Director. “And even if you don’t like losing such quality, this transfer is emblematic of our path. We would like to thank Manu for his time on the Lower Rhine and wish him all the best for his sporting and private future.”
