Ohio high school golf | What to know about the OHSAA state tournaments: New schedule, sites

The moment every high school golfer in the state has been working towards all season is here. The OHSAA state boys and girls golf tournaments get underway on Friday with the Division III boys tournament at NorthStar Golf Club in Sunbury on Friday. Play will continue at the other state tournaments into next week at courses in Akron and Kettering.

Here is a look at the schedule and golf courses for the tournaments, as well as who qualified from Stark County.

Girls Division II

  • Where: Firestone Country Club, Akron

  • When: Sunday and Monday

  • Play begins: 8:30 a.m.

  • Stark County qualifying teams/individuals: None

Girls Division I

  • Where: NCR Country Club, Kettering

  • When: Monday and Tuesday

  • Play begins: 9 a.m.

  • Stark County qualifying teams: North Canton Hoover

  • Stark County qualifying individuals: Zoe Mort, Marlington

What to know about OHSAA Division I girls golf state tournament

  • Hoover qualified for the state tournament with a third-place finish at the district tournament at Brookledge Country Club earlier this week. Senior Kylie Porter led the way for the Vikings with a 79 while sophomore Ellie Hutzler and senior Ava Kemp were just one stroke behind Porter. … Hutzler won the Elms sectional tournament for Hoover with a 71. … Senior Alyssa Evans and junior Amelia Mohler will round out the squad for Hoover.

  • Marlington’s Zoe Mort was the top area individual finisher at the Brookledge district tournament. The senior shot 76 and was six strokes off the lead. Strong performances in tournaments are nothing new for Mort. She was second overall as an individual behind Hutzler at the Elms sectional with a 72. … Mort helped the Dukes finish as the Division II state runner-up in 2021 in Columbus when she was a freshman. She tied for ninth individually that year, shooting a two-round 159 at Ohio State’s Gray Course.

Boys Division III

  • Where: NorthStar Golf Club, Sunbury

  • When: Friday and Saturday

  • Play begins: 9 a.m.

  • Stark County qualifying teams/individuals: None

Boys Division II

  • Where: Firestone Country Club, Akron

  • When: Sunday and Monday

  • Play begins: 8:30 a.m.

  • Stark County qualifying teams/individuals: None

Boys Division I

  • Where: NCR Country Club, Kettering

  • When: Monday and Tuesday

  • Play begins: 9 a.m.

  • Stark County qualifying teams/individuals: None
