Oilers’ Superstars Join Blackhawks Legend for Third in All-Time OT Points

Date:

Teams winning games in overtime has become more common since the NHL switched to the 3-on-3 OT format. This means that more recent superstars in the league hold the record for overtime points, not the retired legends.

One of the all-time leaders in OT points is Chicago Blackhawks legend Patrick Kane who ranks third with 40 (35 with the Blackhawks). He trails only Sidney Crosby (46) and Evgeni Malkin (43), but the two Edmonton Oilers’ superstars have now tied Kane.

With another overtime win this season ended by Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, both have hit 40 OT points in their careers. Alex Ovechkin also has 40 in his career.

Kane is on the back-end of his career, but many overtime winners for the Blackhawks have come off his stick or been set up by one of the team’s all-time greats. He isn’t in Chicago anymore, but he did a lot of damage for the Blackhawks in his time helping the team stay dominant for so long.

Another Blackhawks legend, Jonathan Toews, finished his time with Chicago having scored 30 overtime points. Seth Jones has the most OT points among players currently on the Blackhawks with seven and Philipp Kurashev is next behind him at five. Connor Bedard, with two OT points, has a long way to go, but he will only get better and the team will win more games.
