Owasso Walmart enhances inclusive shopping with specially designed carts

Misti Thornbrough is proud to promote diversity at the workplace.

The Walmart Supercenter store lead in Owasso recently received two specially designed carts from corporate that will help caregivers of children, seniors and adults with disabilities navigate the aisles more easily.

“We’re glad to see all different kinds of folks in the store.” Thornbrough told the Owasso Reporter. “We’re here to help them. It just makes it more of a family affair to come to the store.”

The new product, called Caroline’s Cart, features an adjustable five-point harness seat that faces the user and holds a capacity of 35-250 pounds. The cart also comes with other safety features such as fixed handles, a locking back brake and front locking wheels.

The debut of Caroline’s Carts at Owasso’s Supercenter is part of a larger rollout by Walmart headquarters to incorporate two carts per store — totaling about 8,000 carts nationwide — by early 2025.

“Equipping our stores with Caroline’s Carts provides some relief to parents and caregivers who need this tool and know it’s available at their Walmart,” Executive Vice President of Store Operations Cedric Clark said in a release.

“Whether they’re caring for someone with a disability or a temporary injury, the carts support our customers when and how they need it every time they come through our doors.”

This year’s order from Walmart exceeds all Caroline’s Cart orders combined since 2012.
