Pair of Florida Tech Panthers Compete at World Rowing Championships in Canada – Space Coast Daily

BREVARD COUNTY • , FLORIDA – Florida Tech’s Sandro Gardella and Arnedas Kelmelis from the men’s rowing participated in the 2024 U23 World Rowing Championships in St. Catharines, Canada for their respective home countries this past weekend.

Gardella, who hails from La Punta, Callao, Peru, finished in third of the B finals in the men’s lightweight singles with a time of 7:08.30. This finish gives Gardella a ranking of ninth in the world.

Kelmelis, competing for his home country of Lithuania, participated in the quadruple scull and earned a fifth-place finish in the B finals with a time of 5:54.32. The fifth-place finish gave Kelmelis and his teammates a ranking of 11th in the world.

“It’s amazing to see our guys out there competing on a global scale,” said Florida Tech men’s rowing head coach Adam Thorstad. “Their hard work and dedication this summer will help lead us to success this upcoming season.”

Kelmelis will continue competing internationally at the 2024 U23 European Championships, which are set to be held on September 7-8 in Edirne, Turkey.

The Panthers’ men’s rowing team will begin their 2024-25 campaign on October 18-20 with the Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston, Mass.
