Pau Cubarsi names the next big star emerging from the Barcelona academy

Barcelona rising star Pau Cubarsi, despite being only 17 years old, has already made significant strides in both the club and the Spanish national team.

The La Masia gem’s rapid progress has led to his market value catapulting over the past few months, with the teenager paving the way for more youth talents to dream of breaking into the senior setup.

During the ongoing international break, Cubarsi was interviewed on Radioestadio (h/t Mundo Deportivo), where he was asked about the next potential star emerging from La Masia.

Without hesitation, Cubarsi named academy midfielder Quim Junyent as the player to watch.

Who is Quim Junyent?

Quim Junyent is one of the most promising players currently developing in Barcelona’s youth teams. The midfielder joined Barça’s youth setup in 2016 from Gimnàstic de Manresa, starting his journey with the club’s Benjamin B team.

Currently a part of the Juvenil A setup, Junyent is known within Barcelona for his exquisite technique and his ability to link up play, constantly seeking openings in attack. These qualities earned him his debut with Barça Atletic this season.

Junyent’s technical control, proficiency with both feet, ability to turn between the lines, and ease in delivering the final pass caught the eye of Barcelona scouts.

Aureli Altimira, one of his discoverers, has often compared Junyent’s style to that of the legendary Xavi Hernandez, noting his quick thinking and execution.

First Team Exposure

While Barcelona’s current manager, Hansi Flick, has not yet included Junyent in any first-team matchday squads, the young midfielder has been invited to participate in several training sessions with the senior squad.

The 17-year-old also featured in the pre-season tour of the US back in the summer under the German tactician and made a good impression every time he got an opportunity.

Flick and Barcelona have been carefully tracking the young midfielder’s progress, suggesting they have high hopes for his future.
