PFT’s Week 15 2024 NFL results and recap

Date:

In the AFC, the seven playoff teams seem to be set. The seeding, and one division title, remain to be determined.

In the NFC, things have been tightened at the top, with three of the divisions still up for grabs.

Fifty regular-season games remain before it all gets sorted out, and a potentially wide-open postseason tournament commences.

Here’s a quick look at the 13 Sunday games from Week 15.

Cowboys 30, Panthers 14.

The Cowboys kept their slim playoff hopes alive by winning convincingly in Carolina as underdogs.

Quarterback Cooper Rush had a career-high three touchdown passes, and receiver CeeDee Lamb became the second Cowboys player with 1,000 receiving yards in four straight seasons. (Michael Irvin is the other.)

The Panthers were eliminated from playoff contention for the seventh straight season. Quarterback Bryce Young had a career-high four turnovers.

Chiefs 21, Browns 7.

The Chiefs had their largest margin of victory for the season. They’re now 13-1 for only the second time in franchise history.

Kansas City had six takeaways, their most in one game since 2016.

Browns quarterback Jameis Winston had three interceptions; he was yanked in the second half for Dorian Thompson-Robinson.

Running back Nick Chubb suffered a season-ending broken foot.

Texans 20, Dolphins 12.

The Texans clinched the AFC South, given their win over Miami and Indy’s loss in Denver. DeMeco Ryan is the sixth coach since 2000 to win his division in each of his first two seasons as a head coach.

Houston gained only 181 yards, their fewest in a victory since 2006.

The Dolphins aren’t done yet, but they’re close. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa had a career-high four turnovers.

Jets 32, Jaguars 25.

Jets receiver Davante Adams caught his 100th touchdown pass; he’s the 12th player in league history to do it.

Aaron Rodgers had three touchdown passes. He’s two away from becoming the fifth player with 500 in a career.

Jaguars receiver Brian Thomas Jr. set franchise rookie records for receiving yards (956) and receiving touchdowns (eight).

Commanders 20, Saints 19.

Jayden Daniels is the third rookie with 3,000-plus passing yards and 600-plus rushing yards; Cam Newton and Robert Griffin III are the others.

At 9-5, it’s Washington’s best start since 1992.

The game was sealed on a failed two-point try by the Saints, who scored a touchdown with no time left. The play was preceded by controversy; an official accidentally stopped the clock, which made it easier for the Saints to spike the ball with three seconds left.

Ravens 35, Giants 14.

The Ravens clinched their 13th winning season in 17 years under John Harbaugh. Lamar Jackson had five touchdown passes for the sixth time in his career; only Tom Brady and Drew Brees had more, with eight each.

Giants quarterback Tommy DeVito left in the first half with a concussion. Tim Boyle finished the game.

The Giants have lost eight home games for the first time in team history. They still have one more home game to play.

Bengals 37, Titans 27.

The teams combined for 10 turnovers, the most in a game since Lions-Vikings in September 2007.

Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow is the fifth player with three or more touchdown passes in six straight games. He’s the first to do it since Andrew Luck in 2018.

Titans quarterback Will Levis had a career-high four turnovers before being benched in the third quarter for Mason Rudolph.

Cardinals 30, Patriots 17.

Arizona, now 7-7, stayed alive for a playoff berth with a win over the overmatched Pats.

Cardinals running back James Conner had 110 rushing yards and a pair of touchdowns.

The Patriots are cooked at 3-11. They face the Bills twice in the final three weeks.

Broncos 31, Colts 13.

The Broncos have a four-game winning streak and their most total wins (nine) since 2016. In the victory, rookie quarterback Bo Nix threw a career-high three interceptions.

The game changed when running back Jonathan Taylor dropped the ball before entering the end zone. It bounced out of the end zone for a touchback. A touchdown would have put Indy uo 19-7, pending the try. Instead, the Broncos got the ball on their own 20.

After that moment, the Broncos outscored the Colts, 24-0.

Bills 48, Lions 42.

In the last two Bills games, 176 total points have been scored.

Quarterback Josh Allen is the first player in NFL history with two or more passing touchdowns and two or more rushing touchdowns in consecutive games.

The loss ended Detroit’s 11-game winning streak. It also throws the chase for the top seed in the NFC wide open. The Lions and Eagles are now 12-2, and the Vikings can catch them on Monday night.

Buccaneers 40, Chargers 17.

The Bucs opened a 1.5-game lead over the Falcons in the NFC South with a convincing road win. Down 17-10, the Buccaneers scored 30 straight points the rest of the way.

Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert threw his first interception since Week 2; he had a streak of 357 attempts without a pick.

Despite the loss, the Chargers clinch a playoff berth with two wins in the final three games. They play the Broncos, Patriots, and Raiders.

Eagles 27, Steelers 13.

At 10, it’s the Eagles’ longest winning streak in franchise history. During the 10 games, quarterback Jalen Hurts has 26 total touchdowns and three turnovers.

The Steelers clinched a playoff berth despite losing. They lead the AFC North over Baltimore by one game, and they travel to face the Ravens on Saturday.

Pittsburgh, which plays on Saturday and then on Wednesday, must sweat out whether linebacker T.J. Watt will miss time with a sprained ankle. The Steelers are 1-10 when he doesn’t play.

Packers 30, Seahawks 13.

The Packers snapped Seattle’s four-game winning streak. In so doing, Green Bay got to 10 wins and closer to another playoff berth.

For now, their victory clinched a playoff berth for the Vikings.

Seattle has fallen into a two-way tie with the Rams for first-place in the NFC West. (Technically, the Rams are in first place.) The Seahawks lost quarterback Geno Smith to injury in the second half. It remains to be seen whether he’ll miss next week’s home game against the Vikings.

Receiver Romeo Doubs returned from a concussion to catch two touchdown passes. The Green Bay defense registered seven sacks and two interceptions.
