People gathered Sunday at South Park for the Lawrence Electric Vehicle Showcase. On Tuesday, the City Commission declared the day “Lawrence Drive Electric Day,” noting the effect that gas-powered vehicles had on greenhouse gas emissions, air pollution and climate disruptions. According
to the proclamation, plug-in electric vehicles produce no new greenhouse gas emissions when charged with renewable energy, and 1/5 of the emissions when charged with fossil fuels. The Sunday event capped what had nationally been designated as Drive Electric Week in the U.S.
