Pirates net fifth win in six matches

Aug. 28—GREENSBURG — The Pirates tennis team notched its fifth win in six matches with a 4-1 victory over visiting Madison Tuesday.

The Pirates swept the singles matches. Mason McNulty won 6-0, 6-1. Dan Fisse posted a 6-0, 6-3 victory and Jacob Duerstock cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win.

In doubles, the No. 1 team of Reece Beaver and Jack McKinsey won 6-2, 6-1. At No. 2 doubles, Reece Chapman and Wade Schutte were defeated 6-0, 6-4.

The Pirates return to the court at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, hosting East Central.

In earlier action, the Pirates edged Jennings County 3-2.

Greensburg swept the doubles matches. Beaver and McKinsey won at No. 1 doubles 6-1, 6-1. At No. 2 doubles, Chapman and Schutte won 6-2, 6-3. The other Pirate point came at No. 2 singles where Fisse won 6-2, 6-3.

At No. 1 singles, McNulty was defeated 6-2, 6-0. At No. 3 singles, Duerstock lost in a super tiebreaker 3-6, 6-3, 10-4.
