Former Gannon basketball standout Sam Pirosko has been named the 2023-24 D2CCA Women’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year for the Atlantic Region for all sports.
Pirosko and Slippery Rock football player Brayden Long will advance to the national ballot for consideration for the 2023-24 D2CCA Women’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year and Men’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards.
Conference offices submitted one male and one female nominee for the overall awards. Upon receipt of all nominees, voting was conducted by the commissioners within each of the following regions – Atlantic, Central, East, Midwest, South, Southeast, South Central and West – to select the regional winners.
Pirosko graduated in May with a bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences and a 3.908 grade-point average and is pursuing her master’s degree in Physician Assistant Science. She earlier became the first Gannon student-athlete to win the College Sports Communicators Academic All-America® Team Member of the Year award for all of Division II. She is also a two-time CSC Academic All-America® first team selection.
Pirosko was named the WBCA and D2CCA National Player of the Year after being voted the PSAC West Women’s Basketball Athlete of the Year and the D2CCA Atlantic Region Player of the Year.
In her final season, she set a Gannon record with 752 points and closed her career second in program history with 2,293 points. Pirosko finished the year second in Division II in field goals (251) and free throws (223), while her 19.8 points per game ranked 10th.
She helped the Golden Knights to a 35-3 record and led them to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight after helping them to their third PSAC Tournament championship in the past four seasons.
