Pitt Basketball Assistant Coach Out Recruiting at New York Powerhouse

Date:

While Pitt’s Jeff Capel and Milan Brown were busy watching Pitt target Derek Dixon in Washington D.C. on Thursday, another Pitt assistant was in New York taking in practice elsewhere.

Derek Murray reported that Pitt was represented at Archbishop Stepinac High School in White Plains, New York.

While Brown typically targets DMV-area prospects, Pitt associate head coach Tim O’Toole is usually Pitt’s lead recruiter on the road when it comes to New York/Northeast-based prospects.

Pitt had previously reached out to Stepinac guard prospect Danny Carbuccia years ago. However, it appears that his recruitment has gone in other directions and the Panthers do not seem to be targeting him any longer.

Pitt’s staff is currently locked in on seven prospects who have the Panthers in their top-school lists. Omari Witherspoon is one of seven prospects that currently has Pitt in their top-school lists. Witherspoon took an official visit to Pitt this past Sunday through Monday (Labor Day), and shortly after, cut his list down to three schools, including Pitt.

The three-star prospect (247 Sports) is the lowest-rated of the bunch according to 247 Sports. The other prospects with Pitt in their top-school lists are listed here: Meleek Thomas, Isaiah Denis, Nikola Bundalo, Amari Evans, Davion Hannah, and Derek Dixon.

Pitt’s staff was also scheduled to visit Dixon and Thomas — two prospects who the staff has been after for years now — this week.
