Planet Fitness assigns employee to chaperone transgender client in female changing area – Washington Examiner

Date:

An Alaskan woman who was banned from her local Planet Fitness after exposing an alleged transgender customer shaving in the women’s changing area is now claiming that a Planet Fitness employee is chaperoning that individual through traditional female-only spaces.

Patricia Silva went viral earlier this month after sharing images of a biological male shaving in the women’s locker room of her local Planet Fitness on social media, according to a report.

“He wasn’t physically doing anything threatening,” Silva said. “But we had a man full of shaving cream on his face in the middle of the locker room.”

Silva confronted the individual and posted the encounter, which Silva said got her banned from the gym.

“I said ‘Hey’ and asked him to leave,” Silva said. “He said, ‘I’m LGB queer, transitioning,’ and I said, ‘That doesn’t give you the right to be in the women’s locker room.’”

The encounter cost Silva her place at Planet Fitness, which banned her for violating its policy against photographing other members in the locker rooms, according to the report.

“As the home of the Judgement Free Zone, Planet Fitness is committed to creating an inclusive environment,” a spokesperson representing Planet Fitness’s corporate parent said.

“Our gender identity non-discrimination policy states that members and guests may use the gym facilities that best align with their sincere, self-reported gender identity. The member who posted on social media violated our mobile device policy that prohibits taking photos of individuals in the locker room, which resulted in their membership being terminated.”

Since Silva’s banning, she has been informed by a friend, who still goes to the gym, that an employee has been assigned to assist the biological male in the women’s changing area and is even telling other women to back off, she said.

“Another friend of mine went to that gym the other day and he was in there — shaving his face again,” Silva said. “He is dressed as a man. His hair is cut short. It appeared that he was dressed, shaving his face and getting ready to leave for the day.”

“He has an employee who is assisting him in the bathroom,” she added. “My friend said to his accompanied Planet Fitness rep that he needs to leave … This woman told my friend that if you are uncomfortable you can go into a stall.”

In the wake of Silva’s story, Planet Fitness has been on the receiving end of the “Bud Light Treatment,” and the business has seen a reported $400 million dip in valuation from $5.3 billion to $4.9 billion since Silva spoke out.
