PSG Set Sights on Atletico Madrid Star Amid Inter Milan’s Surprising Goalkeeper Interest

Paris Saint-Germain lost 2-0 to Arsenal last Tuesday night at Emirates Stadium as the Parisian side struggled after conceding two first-half goals. Gianluigi Donnarumma’s errors were particularly costly in this match.

Donnarumma made two crucial mistakes that led to Arsenal’s goals. The first came when he rushed off his line to catch a seemingly harmless cross. This risky decision backfired, allowing Kai Havertz to score with a header. The second goal occurred when Donnarumma misjudged a free-kick from Bukayo Saka.

While it can be said that Arsenal crowded the area, making it difficult for him to see the ball, Donnarumma still attempted to swat it away but completely missed, allowing it to find the back of the net.

Inter Live reports that Donnarumma’s frequent mistakes in European matches have led PSG to reconsider his role in the squad. This has prompted the need for a new goalkeeper, with Jan Oblak, who delivered an outstanding performance in Atletico Madrid’s recent match against Real Sociedad, emerging as the top candidate.

Oblak to PSG could open the door for Donnarumma’s return to Serie A. The veteran shot-stopper is under contract with Atletico until 2028, but he’s been linked with a move in previous transfer windows. PSG is reportedly willing to pay Atletico’s asking price of €30 million, which they could easily afford by selling Donnarumma.

With Donnarumma’s contract at PSG running until June 2026, the club – led by sporting director Luis Campos – could accept a similar fee for the Italian, who joined on a free transfer in the summer of 2021.

Inter Milan might be able to make a €30 million investment, as they’re likely to need a replacement for Yann Sommer. While still under contract until 2026, Sommer is aging and may leave early. However, Inter has already lined up Josep Martinez as a potential successor.

Juventus, who had shown some interest in bringing Donnarumma back to Serie A, is now out of the picture after signing Michele Di Gregorio. While a move to Inter sounds appealing, it seems nearly impossible due to Donnarumma’s hefty €12 million salary, which is simply too much. It will be interesting to see how this potential rumor plays out.
