PSG Veteran ‘Loosening Up’ and ‘Gaining Confidence’ Sparks Post-Barcelona Success

Ousmane Dembélé has kicked off the 2024-25 season in spectacular form, scoring three goals and providing two assists in just four Ligue 1 matches.

With Kylian Mbappé’s departure, PSG needed Dembélé to elevate his game, and he has delivered. Despite not being 30, he’s the most experienced player in the Parisians’ attack.

Ahead of Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League match against Girona FC, Marquinhos explained why Dembélé is finding success at Paris Saint-Germain that he didn’t have with FC Barcelona.

“He’s a player who has been here for a year,” Marquinhos said (h/t Le10Sport). “I think he’s loosening up more and more; he’s gaining confidence. He’s a player who is appreciated by the coach and the entire squad. We are very happy that he is being effective because it is important for the team.”

The 27-year-old winger is clearly hitting his stride, enjoying a standout second season in Paris after his move from Barcelona last year. Dembélé will look to carry this form to Wednesday’s Champions League match at the Parc des Princes and show that his production can translate to Europe’s top competition.

The winger’s impressive performances this season have caught the attention of Manchester United. While the Premier League team is looking for a right-winger, it seems unlikely that the Frenchman will leave Paris, given his strong form under Enrique.
