A recent report from Real Madrid Confidential has revealed that Paris Saint-Germain are determined to exact revenge on Real Madrid over the Kylian Mbappe saga.
In that regard, the French giants intend to do everything in their power to block Xavi Simons’ potential transfer to Los Blancos.
It is no secret that Real Madrid’s plans for the summer transfer window of 2025 are beginning to take shape. Alongside strengthening their defence, the midfield has emerged as a priority following Toni Kroos’ retirement.
The need for a creative and defensively sound midfielder has become increasingly apparent, particularly after Real Madrid’s inconsistent performances over the past six weeks across all competitions.
The club’s management is eager to avoid such struggles in the 2025/26 season, with efforts already underway to secure key reinforcements.
Real Madrid have identified the targets
Martin Zubimendi has been identified as a leading candidate to wear the white shirt from the summer of 2025. However, he is not the only midfielder on Real Madrid’s radar.
Interestingly, former La Masia player Simons has also emerged as a serious contender, adding significant competition to Zubimendi’s candidacy.
Currently on loan at RB Leipzig from PSG, Simons appears to have no future at his parent club under Luis Enrique, whose decision to exclude him seems final.
PSG are reportedly planning to sell the Dutch midfielder in the summer of 2025, a move that has sparked interest from major clubs, including Real Madrid and FC Barcelona.
PSG want to make life difficult
While both Spanish giants are vying for Simons, Barcelona seems to have a slight edge.
The strained and non-existent relationship between Real Madrid and PSG, worsened by the Mbappe saga, makes direct negotiations between the two clubs nearly impossible.
PSG’s top executives, including Nasser Al-Khelaifi, are reportedly more inclined to sell Simons to Barcelona, solidifying their ongoing feud with Real Madrid.
By facilitating Simons’ move to Barcelona, PSG’s leadership would see it as a symbolic act of ‘revenge’ against Real Madrid for the drama surrounding Mbappe’s decision to reject PSG and leave for Madrid.
