LIMESTONE CO., Ala. (WAFF/Gray News) – Following the deadly school shooting in Georgia, a flyer circulating a community in Alabama has been garnering more eyes and more scrutiny.
One of the top prizes that was being offered in an upcoming raffle to help raise money for the East Limestone High School basketball team was listed as an AR-15.
The flyer was posted last week to promote the raffle for the school’s basketball team with a scheduled drawing on Sept. 30.
However, Limestone County Schools Athletic Director Russ Cleveland said the raffle has since been canceled.
According to Cleveland, raffles are against district rules because the school board considers it a form of gambling. He added the booster club was also not permitted to use the East Limestone name on the flyer.
The athletic director said for raffles to be considered from an outside group, the school must approve the list first as well.
